Counting Calories, Counting Macros, Paleo, High Protein, Keto, Low Carb, Shakes, Fasting….
Diet options are endless and it seems everyone you talk to is an expert.
I do get it though, if something has worked for you then yes, of course you are going to shout it from the roof top (or your Instagram feed) and when asked your opinion you are 100% going to back what has worked for you.
But picture this- you are wanting to “lose weight” or “get healthy” Person A is telling you one way to do things and Person B is telling you the complete opposite way to diet, they are both seeing results and both protest it’s their way or the high way.
So now you are left feeling confused, uncertain and ready to give up. You drown your miseries in a packet of tim tams and decide what to do tomorrow.
At times it can you feel like we are being pulled in two different directions but I think we are forgetting one thing, We Are All Different.
If you take a moment to glance up from your mobile phones you will notice we All look completely different, We are different ages, We are living different lifestyles, Working different jobs and come from different cultural backgrounds.
Now taking that all in to consideration do you think there is one set way we should be eating?
I say No way José, Think about the world globally for a second, we are certainly not all eating the same way, We are cut from different moulds and at the end of the day we need to find something that works for us.
Of course we can take on other people’s advice, follow nutrimental guidelines and seek professional guidance but at the end of the day you need to find the things that work for you and your current lifestyle.
Create healthy habits you actually like, if you cringe and absolutely dread eating a certain food do you really think you will stick to eating that thing long term? There are other options out there so don’t eat something you absolutely hate as you may find you will be reaching for the Cadbury chocolate later to make yourself feel better. For me it’s cooked eggs, the smell and look of eggs makes me dry reach so I absolutely never eat them (unless you want to pay me a significant amount of money and then we can talk)
Try and be opened minded when people are sharing with you how they eat. Listen and take in the bits you want to take in and most importantly be polite. You don’t have to shoot someone down and tell them they are wrong just because they aren’t eating the same way as you.
When I do decide to jump on the bandwagon and try a new dietary habit I like to do this little check list with myself.
Am I enjoying this? Do I have energy? Am I bloated? How’s the old bowel movements going? (gross but important) Am I satisfied or hungry? How is my skin, hair nails? How is my immune system?
I also like to give my body over a month to adjust, I swear the first week or two my body goes into rebellious mode so when I’m changing my diet I know I have to stick it out to see the affects.
At the end of the day your dietary habits are completely up to you and you are eating to fuel your own body so tune in a listen to what it has to say.
Unless your body is telling you it needs 10 cans cokes a day… Then you may find you have a slight caffeine and sugar addiction 😆
